An asbestos survey in Devon was carried out recently by our surveyors. Our surveyors had a 5 hour round trip to survey a little property in Barnstaple, North Devon. A beautiful part of the world!
Asbestos was found to be present in most of the rooms of the property in addition to asbestos cement board forming the gable ends inside the loft space. All but one area required immediate attention to the ceiling where a water leak had caused the textured coating (Artex) to peel away from the plasterboard. Textured coating (Artex) can quite often contain white asbestos (Chrysotile) albeit a small amount. Textured coatings should never be scraped from walls or ceiling unless carried out by a professional under controlled conditions.
